Hi all
All of a sudden my computer tells me I am using JAWS in 40 minute mode and that in a few minutes I will have to restart my computer. I have no idea how this happened since I have been using JAWS for years. I evidently pressed some weird combination of keys that caused this to happen, but I don't know how to get things back to normal. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Oy it sounds like an operating system issue. I've had a program that was registered and then decide to not be registered anymore. I did some digging when that happened and found a registry issue. Hopefully you don't have that! I would first tell freedom scientific about this because perhaps something went wrong with your copy. They can reset your registration. If that doesn't work you should assume it is your computer and get that checked out.
Thanks, I may have to contact Freedom Scientific, but I hate their customer service people, so that will be my last resort.
If that is the case, go to a free screen-reader program. That way you won't have to dealwith customer service.
Just a suggestion!
Becky, just today I've heard of this same thing happening to two other people. I wonder what the issue is, and why it's coincidentally happened to three people about the same time. What version of JAWS are you running?
I'm running a really old version, 6.1. I've never been tempted to update before but may do it soon. The thing is, it's not just JAWS. I'm also having weird error messages whenever I enter my email program. I know a local guy who works part-time at a small business that sells adaptive equipment, and I'm waiting for the next day he works to give him a call. It could be so many things. It could be that my computer is getting old, it could be something I've done...I just don't know. My computer made a really weird noise last Friday afternoon just before I started having both the email and JAWS issues.
then it doesn't sound like this is a jaws issue, sounds like your computer is going to me if more than one program is effedcted. get your computer looked at as soon as possible.
Its not a Jaws issue, but a hard drive, or loss of memory or poor battery. The battery probably need replacing.
Maybe time for a new computer? Smile.
